Programs - Girls' Circle

The Girls Circle (www.girlscircle.com) is a model of structured support for girls from 9-18 years.  The Tidewater Youth Services Commission uses the Girls Circle model and curriculum to address issues that are unique to developing females.  A strength-based, skill-building approach is used to create a safe space for girls to address risky behaviors, build on protective factors, and improve relationships in a format that is interesting and engaging.  Girls Circle is characterized by the following:

  • Use of the Girls Circle Curriculum (noted as a “promising approach” in the Model Program Guide of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP)
  • Weekly groups
  • Individualized treatment plans
  • Collateral contact with school and other service providers
  • Weekly contacts with the referral source
  • Case management including linkage to community-based resources
  • Individual sessions if needed
  • Crisis response
